SUMMARY:RYA Day Skipper Theory Course
DESCRIPTION:A comprehensive introduction to chart work\, navigation and the basics of seamanship. This is an elementary course\, suitable for beginners and people with little experience. You will find this course invaluable if you want to learn how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course. \nThe course includes exercises\, which will mostly be done as homework – you should allow sufficient time for this. There are also 2 assessment papers to be sat during the course. \nAs you will be based in the Yacht Club\, you will meet like-minded Club Members whose passion is boating. Many skippers are looking for crew to club race and rallying and if you become a Member you can join the Crew Register and get an opportunity to sail on these craft. \nThe course fee includes all training materials from the RYA. However\, you will require your own plotting equipment – a Breton/Portland or Parallel Rules and a set of Dividers. You can either purchase these from a local chandler or on line. \nPre Course Experience: None Required \nCourse Duration: 40 hours plus 2 exams \nTimes: 5 x Saturdays (09:00 -17:00) \nDates: 15th & 29th November 2025\, 13th December 2025\, 3rd & 17th January 2026

(gf) \nGrilled Sea Bass\, served with crushed new potato\, pan fried spinach topped with garlic butter capers and a white wine sauce. \nMushroom and tarragon parmentier (vg) - Puff Pastry filled with mushroom and tarragon\, tender stem broccoli\, peas and a mushroom cream sauce \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDesserts\n\n\n\n\nTraditional Apple Crumble Served with custard \nBanoffee Pie Served with caramel sauce \nChocolate Brownie (v\,gf) Served with a vegan ice cream \n\nTickets sales are open to the select few who were asked to be put onto the waiting list.

DESCRIPTION:This is an advanced classroom-based course in navigation and meteorology for candidates for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate and suits those who have already completed an RYA Day Skipper Course. \nOn successful completion of the course\, you will have sufficient background knowledge to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night. \nThe syllabus makes some provisions for the revision of subjects in the Day Skipper Course but those who have not acquired the knowledge set out in the Day Skipper Course are unlikely to be able to assimilate all the subjects covered in this advanced course in the time available. \nFollowing on from this course you will have the opportunity to put these newfound skills into practice on a five-day RYA Yachtmaster Preparation Coastal Skipper Practical Course.
