DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first River Dinghy Series for the Small Villiers Johnson Cup. (Last raced and won in 1960!) \nThere will be 30 minutes per race and some dates shown below holding more than one race on the day. \nWe ask that you purchase your entry for the entirity of the series below as well as let our office team know your attending each indiviual race by RSVP. You will need to click on each date to be able to allocate your RSVP. \nThere will be racing close to the club house and you will all be welcome for a drink after sailing. \nRacing Schedule: \nRace 1 & 2\, Saturday 14th April @ 12:45pm \nRace 3\, Saturday 11th April @ 18:00pm \nRace 4 & 5\, Saturday 18th April @ 11:40am \nRace 6\, Saturday 25th April @ 18:30pm \n- Please find Notice of Race and Sailing instructions here. \n- Any under 18s competing should complete the Parental Consent Form found here. This should be signed by a parent or guardian. \n- Entry tickets are per person and one ticket is only required for the duration for the series. We do request that all participants do RSVP to each race to ensure the office are aware of numbers. \n- Boat charter is also available for the following craft as an additional ticket. Price is for the full series. SUMMARY:RYA Day Skipper Practical Course
DESCRIPTION:We are running practical courses in conjunction with renowned RYA recognised training operator Fairview Sailing\, which means we can now offer members competitively priced practical courses in the spring to enable you to obtain your Competent Crew\, Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper qualification. \nFairview use new superior quality yachts\, we have arranged to use their Beneteau Oceanis 37s\, which have 3 cabins\, 8 berths. There is a maximum of 5 students per yacht. \nThe course includes quality wet weather gear\, living on board\, breakfast\, lunch and 3 evening meals (one to be taken at a local pub / restaurant). \n\nThe Instructor for the course is Peter Launchbury\, who has instructed Coastal Skipper and Day Skipper Theory courses at SYC for a number of years and has sailed for most of his life. Peter’s qualifications include Yachtmaster\, Sail and Power\, all commercially endorsed by the RYA/MCA\, additionally a Yachtmaster Instructor with considerable experience in both Practical and Shore-based training. He is also a SRC Instructor / Assessor.

SUMMARY:River Dinghy Series 6 2026
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our Spring River Dinghy Series Race 6! \nThere will be one race during this session approximately half an hour long\, with the faster boats completing more laps of the circuit than slower boats in the fleet. Average lap times are calculated using PY handicaps. \nRaces 6 is the sixth installment of the series and will begin at 1830hrs. \nDo keep in mind there is no set end time for this race as it is dependable on the weather and your dinghy's ability. \nLocation varies due to weather. Races will take place outside our Shoreham Clubhouse. \nIf you have not done so already\, please purchase a entry ticket for the 2026 Spring River Series. We request that you RSVP for each individual race.

SUMMARY:RYA Marine Radio SRC Course & Exam
DESCRIPTION:Stay connected and safe at sea with the RYA Marine Radio SRC (Short Range Certificate) Course & Exam at Sussex Yacht Club. This one-day course covers all essential aspects of VHF radio operation\, GMDSS procedures\, and marine communication regulations. You’ll gain hands-on experience with voice procedures\, DSC controllers\, and emergency protocols for distress\, urgency\, and safety situations. \nThe course includes both a written and practical exams.  Successful participants receive an RYA SRC Certificate\, typically issued within four weeks. No prior experience is required\, though some home study is recommended. \nThis course is perfect for skippers\, crew\, and anyone planning offshore or coastal passages\, this course ensures you can communicate confidently and legally at sea. \nThe course cost includes the course book (G31) which will be sent to you prior to the course date. \nIn addition to the course fee there is an exam fee of £76 per person is payable directly to the RYA prior to the course date. \n  \n

SUMMARY:RYA Day Skipper Practical Course
DESCRIPTION:We are running practical courses in conjunction with renowned RYA recognised training operator Fairview Sailing\, which means we can now offer members competitively priced practical courses in the spring to enable you to obtain your Competent Crew\, Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper qualification. \nFairview use new superior quality yachts\, we have arranged to use their Beneteau Oceanis 37s\, which have 3 cabins\, 8 berths. There is a maximum of 5 students per yacht. \nThe course includes quality wet weather gear\, living on board\, breakfast\, lunch and 3 evening meals (one to be taken at a local pub / restaurant). \n\nThe Instructor for the course is Peter Launchbury\, who has instructed Coastal Skipper and Day Skipper Theory courses at SYC for a number of years and has sailed for most of his life. Peter’s qualifications include Yachtmaster\, Sail and Power\, all commercially endorsed by the RYA/MCA\, additionally a Yachtmaster Instructor with considerable experience in both Practical and Shore-based training. He is also a SRC Instructor / Assessor.
